Coady was the only Premier League player to play every minute of league and cup football during 2018/19, accumulating to around 70 hours on the pitch. After leading Wolves to seventh spot in the Premier League and an FA Cup semi-final, Coady spoke at the club’s End of Season Awards dinner, paying tribute to his team mates and the Molineux atmosphere.
On leading the team
“I’ll be honest, it’s not been difficult at all. It’s a team full of fantastic players, but more importantly brilliant people, who want to play for this football club and do well for this football club. A lot of people have said how brilliant the season has been and it has, but we want to get better, it’s as simple as that.
“We know it’s been a brilliant season, we’ll have fond memories of it moving forward, but there’s been ups and downs, and things we need to improve on. We want to get better, like everybody knows.”
On the loyal support
“It’s a special club, in terms of players and supporters. You’ve seen it in the past couple of years since the manager and his staff came in, and since Fosun came in too, there’s been a real bond between players and supporters.
“I’ve said it plenty of times before, I do believe Molineux is the best place in the Premier League to play football. The atmosphere’s incredible. You saw the Manchester United game in the FA Cup, I don’t think I’ve played in a better atmosphere than that in my whole life, it was incredible.
“As long as they’re backing us and supporting us all the way, we’ll give the best that we’ve got for them.”
On his run of minutes
“I don’t run that much, I play with lads who do it for me, but it’s a good job playing in this team. It’s full of fantastic footballers and the way the manager sets us up is incredible, so it’s a pleasure to play in this team.”
On England hopes
“I’ll be honest, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not something I think about, I love playing for Wolves, I love playing here, the more I think about, the more I’d go stir crazy, so it’s not something I want to think about. I enjoy playing here and whatever comes, comes.”
