Winning momentum key for Coady

Conor Coady is delighted he and his Wolves team mates are building FA Cup excitement amongst the club’s fan base.

Ivan Cavaleiro scored the only goal against Bristol City to send Wolves into the quarter finals, but the victory didn’t come without hard work. After dominating the first period, Wolves had their backs against the wall in the second period but showed character in abundance to see the job through, which was appreciated by a packed Ashton Gate away end come full-time.

On the winning feeling

“It’s brilliant, it’s where we wanted to be. We said before the game about keeping that winning mentality, no matter what competition we’re playing in. It’s important to win and we’ve done that today.

“It was a frantic second-half, Bristol City are a good, we knew it was going to be tough. People think because you’re a Premier League team you should come and turn them over, but it’s different. It’s a great feeling, we wanted to do well in the FA Cup and luckily we’re in the quarter finals.”

On different halves

“It was a game of two halves, I think we controlled it first-half, bossed it and played really well. Second-half we had to dig in and see the game out which we did. We knew they were going to come out second-half and change the way they play, making little tweaks to the system to match us up.

“We found it tough, but we’ve got players who can dig in. We’ve got clever footballers, who know how to defend, know what to do and big John in goal who comes for crosses and it a little bit easier for us.

“We spoke at half-time, we knew there was going to be a reaction because first-half we were in control. We knew we’d have to defend, but they played really well second-half, fair play to them. Sometimes you have to dig in, especially in games like this, and we’ve come away with the win.”

On John Ruddy’s performance

“He’s the best professional you can come across. He’s a brilliant fella around the place, his experience he brings to the changing room is outstanding and you see in the FA Cup ties he’s played this year, he’s a fantastic goalkeeper as well, you saw today with the crosses coming in. It goes for Patricio and Will Norris too, we’re lucky to have some fantastic goalkeepers at this football club.”

On excitement building

“We want to win every game possible, it doesn’t matter what competition we’re playing in. We all know how big the FA Cup is in England, it’s huge. We’ve done well up to now, but it would be nice to give the supporters something to cheer about.

“The fans are excited, but like us, we’re all excited. We’re happy we’re in the quarter final, we said before the game to make sure we’re in the hat and we’re there. We’ll look at the draw and get ready for it.”

On his preferred draw

“I don’t mind who we get. I’d like it to be at Molineux because Molineux can rock and the supporters are excited, so it’d be rocking.”
