Coady discusses lack of sharpness

Conor Coady admitted that 'sloppy' defending cost Wolves as their festive run of fixtures ended with a 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Wolves had taken four points from trips to Fulham and Tottenham in the past week, but were unable to get near the heights of their Wembley performance as Palace took victory with two goals in the final ten minutes.

The first of those came after the ball fell to Jordan Ayew in the box, and although Coady believes the goal was fortuitous, he acknowledged that the Wolves defence needed to do better to prevent the striker from getting his shot away.

On the manner of goals

"They got the rub of the green with the shot-come-cross. But it's sloppy from us, it really is, to concede a goal like that.

"It's a shot in the first place and he ends up getting a good touch in the box and scoring. We've got to mark him better - simple as that. We haven't, and we need to look at the goals we've conceded because it wasn't good enough."

On a lack of sharpness

"Losing is the worst feeling in the world; especially a game like that, which I thought in general was poor but very even. Maybe a draw might have been a fair result, but like I say, they got that rub of the green with the goal.

"The festive period is always tough, no matter who you play for, but we're professional footballers - this is what we do and we love it, playing every single game.

"We didn't come out of the traps as we wanted to tonight; we've got to be better - we wanted to start the game quicker and sharper. Even in the second half, we were moving it from side to side without really creating too much, and it was just disappointing."
