'Fantastic' Wolves side praised by Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo was delighted with the performance of his Wolves players after his side produced a stunning turnaround to claim come-from-behind victory over Chelsea.

Two second half goals from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota put the seal on Wolves’ first Premier League win in seven matches after going behind in the first half from an unlucky deflection.

Praising his ‘fantastic’ players, Nuno said: “I think it was a very good performance. In the first half, even though we are losing, I think the organisation and staying with the game was important. We tried to limit the chances of Chelsea. We didn’t have many chances, but we were organised.

“We started good, but in the second half it was totally different. The belief of the boys was incredible. We had desire to go in front. Their reaction was nice to see, it was an enjoyable game.

“I think it was fantastic work from the boys, they worked really hard and it is the only way you can play these teams.

“Chelsea are a fantastic team and have a fantastic manager, fantastic players, so to have been able to compete against this team is very good for us. You have to run more than them, you have to balance more than them, and when you have your chances you take it.”

Wolves had to show fighting spirit to overcome a deflected Ruben Loftus-Cheek shot which found its way past Rui Patricio to give Chelsea the lead.

“Everything happens to us,” Nuno added. “But we had to keep our nerves, keep focused on the game. The belief has to be always there. When you go onto a football pitch there can be no negotiations, you have to work hard.

“The moment that we got the draw, everybody felt in Molineux that we could do it. Our fans, the way we became so noisy and push the team, and the players the way they run so hard and achieved such a deserved goal.”

Despite the victory, the head coach has reiterated the need for his players to keep improving game-by-game as they head to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Nuno said: “It’s a question of working, organising, knowing that you have good moments, you have bad moments. You have to realise what you’ve been through, the process, of building the team, building the players – no questions, no doubts.

“The result means that we have won the game, not that our problems are solved. It means that tomorrow we have to work and stick on these standards and maintain it.”
