Jimenez confident of a Wolves turnaround

Raul Jimenez is calling on his teammates to learn from their defeat at Cardiff City as they prepare for the visit of Chelsea to Molineux on Wednesday evening.

Wolves have now gone on a run of six Premier League matches without a victory following the 2-1 loss in south Wales, but the Mexican striker is not putting the winless patch down to a lack of confidence.

“I think we have much confidence in us,” he said. “This is not a good moment, but we know that if we work hard and do better things we can get out of this situation. I only know that we have to make the things like we did before.

“It was a good game [against Cardiff], we knew it was going to be like this, but we have to learn from it as all of these kind of teams are going to play like this.”

Set pieces played a key part in the Cardiff defeat, with a headed effort from Jimenez going on to set up Wolves’ goal, and it was from a corner where the home side got their equaliser – despite some concerns over whether Rui Patricio was fouled as the ball was crossed into the visitor’s box.

Jimenez said: “We plan our corners and have images about how they defend so there was something prepared. I was happy to have been part of the goal.

“Maybe it was a foul [on Patricio], but this is football and sometimes they are not going to mark a foul. But we have to learn that this is the Premier League and we have to make good things.”

One match in to an onslaught of seven games in 30 days, Wolves will quickly return to Premier League action with a 7.45pm kick-off on Wednesday night against Chelsea.

“We have to be totally concentrated for the next match,” Jimenez added. “It’s going to be a difficult match like all of the matches we have, but we know sometimes against the big teams we play better so maybe it’s another good opportunity to get out of this situation.”
