Late rally gives Nuno encouragement

The character showed to come from three goals down and almost stun Tottenham Hotspur with a dramatic comeback pleased Nuno after an entertaining Molineux clash.

Wolves were ultimately beaten 3-2 on Saturday evening but their late rally, courtesy of Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez penalties, made it an exhilarating end to proceedings at Molineux.

Although unhappy with a third successive defeat, Nuno was pleased with the application of his players, which nearly wielded an unlikely point against Spurs.

“They got the third goal and everyone thought it was lost. The boys didn’t let go, gave everything they had, and we took more risks and achieved two goals,” he said.

“We had the character and in the end we could have drawn, you never know, but it was well played. There was a lot of enthusiasm and energy, all the players gave everything.

“We knew one goal could change everything and we went for it. We put heart and spirit into it and those moments are important.”

2-0 down going into the half-time break, Wolves appeared to have found a route back into the game when Matt Doherty set up Jimenez to convert, only for the goal to be wrongly ruled out for offside.

“It could have made a big difference. You never know what can happen after that in the game. The ball went inside and it’s so clear so it’s hard not to feel it’s a little bit unfair.

“I saw it and the referee is going to see it, but it’s a tough job and we know there are going to be mistakes. It’s a fantastic move from my boys and goes in the net.”

However, the two goals which had set Spurs on their way, scoring within minutes of each other, were the major disappointment for Nuno after a similar scenario against Watford a fortnight ago.

“We were controlling the game and then we conceded. It was exactly the same as Watford and is something we need to asses and analyse.

“The game went away from the beginning. We started very well, created a lot of situations and Tottenham arrived with two counter attacks.

“How we conceded needs a reflection from us because we knew we could avoid situations so we must practise better.

“It was a great game. Good game of football, bad result for us,” he added.
