Neves heaps praise on fellow midfielder

Ruben Neves has lauded Joao Moutinho as one of the most important players in the Wolves squad following his summer arrival from Monaco.

Moutinho's stunning strike – his first goal for Wolves - earned his new side a point against Manchester United on Saturday, with Neves praising the impact his Portuguese compatriot has had at the club.

“He is a great player. Everyone is seeing what he can do, and he is a very good player for us,” he said.

“He is one of the most important players in the squad because he's very experienced, very smart, and an intelligent player. We learn every day and as a team we are learning with each other, but especially from a player like Joao.

“We want to learn from him. He's played Champions League and has been European champion and fortunately we can enjoy him.”

Moutinho's finish earned Wolves a point at Old Trafford after the visitors fell behind to Fred's opener for United – and the result was enough to stretch Wolves’ unbeaten run to five matches.

Neves said his side fully deserved to take home a point, adding: “It was a very good performance. It is not easy to come to Old Trafford and do what we did.

“We played very good and had control of the game. In defence we were comfortable and they did not create many dangers for us.

“We have very good players to counter-attack and have to to do this mainly against these teams.

“We have to believe and we are looking good, but there are still lots of games in front of us.”

Wolves welcome Leicester City to Molinuex on Tuesday night for an all Premier League Carabao Cup tie, but the midfield maestro is calling on his teammates to continue improving their performances.

“We always think game-by-game and are now thinking about Leicester on Tuesday,” Neves said. “It is an important game because we want to go on in the cup. We will focus on doing what we are doing and improve week-by-week.

“Since I started last year we are improving and have made ourselves difficult to play against.

“We want to play every game like it is the last game in our lives, but we can't think about the future before we do well in the present. We can think about the opponent, but we are 11 against 11.

“We don't need to be afraid to play anyone. They are not superheroes and if we do things well, it is difficult for them.”
