Watt ecstatic to make first team debut

Elliot Watt was lost for words as he made his competitive debut during Wolves' 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening.

The 18-year-old Scotland youth international started for Wolves during the victory after impressing Nuno Espirito Santo during the first team's pre-season tour of Switzlerland.

Speaking after Tuesday's game, Watt couldn't put it into words, how delighted he was to make his competitive debut.

He said, "It's unbelievable, I can't put into words really. It's what you dream of to make to make a competitive debut in anybody's first team but to do it at a great club like Wolves, I can't put it into words.

"I wasn't nervous, not really! In the morning when I woke up, I was and I couldn't stop thinking the game through in my head but as the day went on, spending more time with the lads, I felt so relaxed. Going through the warm up, I couldn't wait for it, I couldn't wait for it to get started. I was disappointed to come off but it was unbelievable, I really enjoyed it!"

It's been a huge year for Watt, beginning the year as Wolves Under 18's captain, before moving up to the Under 23's captain and then getting a first team call-up during pre season.

During that time, he has also earned Scotland call-ups for the Under 19s and Under 21s. He wasn't expecting any of it but is now hoping that his progress can continue.

He continued, "Like I said, I can't put it into words, it's been a different class. So many things have come that I didn't expect to come like the call up for the Under 19s for Scotland, did not expect that. The Under 21s for Scotland, did not expect that. Pre-season with the first team, did not expect it. Now, this!

"Not really, no! I just keep going, everyday I work hard and hope things will fall into place and at the minute they seem to be.

"They've all been first class, they couldn't have helped any more. So many of them have put their arm round me and guided me through the game, pushing me on and they believe in you. For them to believe in me, it's unbelievable - hopefully I repay them!

"First ten, I thought they were pretty good but then we started to grow into the game, we started to control it before the end of the first half and then the second half, we controlled it throughout and I thought the goals were very good. So yeah, it was a great team performance.

"Like I said, I was disappointed to come off because I didn't want it to end. Hopefully now, there will be more and more before the end of the year and for the season. I can't wait for more and hopefully more will come."
