It’s Great To Be Back

Conor Coady revealed that he and the team are excited to be back for pre-season as the squad prepares for the 2018/19 Premier League season.

The staff and players returned to Compton Park on Wednesday morning to begin testing and training ahead of the new campaign.

After a well-deserved summer break following the Sky Bet Championship title-winning season in 2017/18, the defender explained how the group is ready to ‘get back into it’.

Coady said: “It has been a lovely summer, we have spent it with all our families and it goes a little too quick but it is nice to see all the boys and all the staff again.

“I know I might sound a bit daft but you miss the lads. You see them on a daily basis for the majority of the season so it is one where like I said we are happy to come back in and see everyone.

"It is always good coming back for a new pre-season, you have got a new kit and it is all new but I think it is more exciting this time around, isn't it?

“The off season has been tough to be honest. The runs Antonio (Fitness Coach) has given us, they have been the hardest ones I have ever had so the boys have come back in really, really good nick.

"We are ready to go, it’s a tough time of the year and no one really likes it that much but you need to do it to make sure you perform come the first day of the season.

“We want to keep on taking this club forward and hopefully we can do that."

It’s the first return to the club for the team since the open-top bus celebrations at the beginning of May and, when asked if the elation had settled for the players now, Coady responded: “No, they are memories for life.

"It is something that will stick with you for the rest of your life. It is as simple as that but it is one where we have got a huge season ahead of us now.

"It was something that this club needed and all the supporters wanted and we all enjoyed it but I think everybody is looking forward now.

“We want to move the club forward as much as we possibly can and it is starting now.

"When you play for a club of this stature there is always pressure. There is always pressure to do well. There is pressure to perform and win games but I think the type of club it is we just want to keep on moving forward.

"We want to keep on improving. You see what the owners are trying to do, the players who are coming in and different things.

"It is one where we want to keep on improving and up to now we have done it but it is a huge pre-season for us. It is one where we want to make sure we are right and ready because it is going to be one tough season.

"We are ready, we focused and we know what we have to do."

Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo and his staff have now been with Wolves for a year and Coady believes that familiarity will aid the team’s preparations over the coming months.

"Because the Head Coach has been here for a season, he now knows everything about the football club.

"He knows everything in and out and we all know how he wants to play and we need to make sure we are doing it right and listening to him as much as possible and improving.

"I think in terms of that it will be settled but we have got one hell of a season coming up. Everybody is excited for it and everyone is excited to improve."
