Match Preview | Wolves v Birmingham

Wolves have the opportunity to celebrate promotion to the Premier League in style when they host neighbours, Birmingham City at Molineux on Sunday lunchtime.

Promotion was confirmed on Saturday evening after Fulham were held by Brentford, sparking jubilant scenes of celebration from the Wolves team hotel. Promoted with four games to spare, Nuno’s men will want to add to their 92 Championship points, starting against the Blues. Wolves go into the fixture in good form, unbeaten in five, four of which finished in victories. Wednesday saw a professional performance from the men in gold and black, who saw off Derby County to strengthen their position. Although the focus will now turn to the Championship title, everyone involved can celebrate promotion as a collective on Sunday.

The Opposition

Birmingham have their own battle ahead of Sunday’s game, sat two points above the drop zone with four games remaining. Garry Monk’s arrival had had the desired effect at St Andrew’s, with an impressive Easter appearing to have done the job, but results haven't followed since. A draw at home to Burton Albion was followed by defeat to Bristol City in midweek, meaning City still have work to do. Having been at this level for seven straight seasons, City will have been pleased to see Barnsley and Bolton draw on Saturday, to maintain breathing space on the bottom four.

Around The Championship

Brentford’s last minute equaliser on Saturady confirmed Wolves’ promotion and dented Fulham’s hopes of finishing second. That place is now filled once again by Cardiff, who won 2-0 at Norwich. Aston Villa beat Leeds on Friday evening and Middlesbrough are back in the top six after victory over Bristol City. It’s Derby, who were beaten at Burton, who’ve slipped out of the Play-Offs after Millwall drew with Sheffield United.

Follow The Game

The fixture will be unavailable to follow live on Wolves TV due to Sky Sports coverage. As always, radio commentary will be available, while updates can be tracked on Twitter and Matchday Centre Live.
