Sellars Disappointed With Rovers Defeat

Scott Sellars was left unimpressed with his side’s performance against Blackburn Rovers Under-23s on Monday, as a much-changed Wolves Under-23 side lost 3-0 at Molineux.

With the usual Under-23 starting line-up involved in a friendly with Romania Under-21s on Tuesday, a number of players were given the opportunity to impress, but Sellars was left dissatisfied with the performance.

“Very disappointed, I thought it was a poor performance from minute 1 to 90,” said Sellars.

“We’re going to play Romania Under-21s on Tuesday and as a staff, we thought that would be the best game to play the starting 11 that we play most weeks, so we gave other boys the chance to play.

“Some of the boys have been told they’re getting released, so it was an opportunity for scouts to come and have a look at them, but they didn’t put themselves in any shining light.

“I thought overall, I didn’t see a Wolves team. I didn’t see hard work, I didn’t see an intensity, I didn’t see a passion to play for the shirt.

“I thought it was a poor performance and Blackburn deserved to win."

Despite being disappointed with the performances of the senior players, Sellars reserved praise for the younger players who came into the team, particularly Owen Otasowie.

“I thought Owen was probably the real shining light of the night, I thought he had composure on the ball and made things happen," Sellars continued.

“I think Austin (Samuels) showed glimpses of what he’s about, I thought Diego (Lattie) looked composed.

“All the younger boys took the challenge on and got on with it, but the older and more senior boys didn’t enjoy the challenge and didn’t look brave enough."

After being pleased with Otasowie’s performance, Sellars said he wouldn’t hesitate to put him in the squad again.

“Looking at the game if I pick the next squad, what’s stopping me putting Owen in the squad or in the team?

“We’ve got a game Friday and one or two won’t be back from international duty, so I’ve no problem putting him in again.

“I say it to them all the time, who’s going to step out from the back and show me you’re a good player and you’ve got what it takes for this football club, I thought Owen did that tonight.”

The Wolves Under-23s are with Romania Under-21s on Tuesday afternoon at the Birmingham FA.
