Barry Douglas maintains that the squad will train hard and prepare for Monday night’s derby clash against Birmingham City like they do for any other game.
The defender acknowledged the importance of derby games to supporters as he prepares to face Blues for the first time in his Wolves career and expressed his desire to ‘put on a show’ for the fans.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Douglas said: “Who doesn’t like derby days? Every game is special and important but I think a derby brings that little bit extra when you feel the build-up to it amongst the fans.
“I don’t know so much about this derby as it will be my first one but I’m sure when I walk out onto the pitch, I will definitely feel it.
“When I was in Poland there was a big derby between Lech Poznan and Legia Warsaw.
“Again, with the expectation in the build-up to the games, it’s matches like that you want to play in.
“You feel the atmosphere and excitement around the city and it will be no different here.
“It’s another game, that’s the way we’ll look at it. We’ll go and do what we do, train hard, get ready for the game, prepare, treat it like any other game and hopefully we can put on a show for the fans.
“We want to go out there and get three points, and that’s what we aim to do.”
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men approach the game on the back of five consecutive wins and Douglas attributes Wolves’ recent form to the hard work that is put in on the training ground.
“It’s testament to the way we’re training and playing,” said the full-back before adding: “We’re getting results and it’s a good line to be on, we want to continue along that path.
“I think we’re being more clinical now. If you look at every game this season, we’ve created chances and, lately, more seem to be hitting the back of the net.
“It’s all about the hard work and, thankfully, it’s paying off.
“We want to win as many games as possible.
“We know there will be off days so it’s about not getting too downhearted, making sure you show up for the next game and show people what we’re made of.
“It’s always going to happen. With the results that we’re getting I think that sometimes people forget that side of the game.
“We’re going to have off days and blips. It’s about how we respond and how we turn it around in the next game.
“The good thing about this league is there’s games thick and fast so there’s a chance to turn it around straight away and not dwell on any off days.”
With two goals and seven assists so far this campaign, Douglas has been contributing at both ends of the pitch and the 28-year-old revealed how much he is enjoying his football.
He said: “It’s nice to contribute with some assists and goals but, at the end of the day, the most important thing is for the team to keep winning and keep getting points.
“I feel good, I feel confident, I’m enjoying my football. I think the way we’re playing compliments how I play as well, and that’s the same with Doc on the other side.
“We get to be so offensive and help be involved in creating in the final third.
“Sometimes, as a defender, you don’t get to be as offensive so it’s definitely working to our favours.
“It’s nice to contribute but it’s most important for the team to keep doing well.
“I would sacrifice my personal contributions as long as we stay winning.
“We just need to keep working on that, building on it and keep doing what we’re doing.”
