A Fantastic Performance

Nuno Espirito Santo praised his team’s ‘fantastic performance’ as Wolves beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux, a win which took Nuno’s side top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Second half goals from Diogo Jota and Leo Bonatini saw Wolves to an emphatic win in front of 30,239 fans, the highest attendance at Molineux since 1981.

Speaking after the victory, Nuno said that the Wolves fans deserved the win as he realised how much it meant to them.

“To our fans it meant a lot - the way they supported the team over the 90 minutes, they really deserve a night like this,” he began.

“Thank you to the fans for their support, and together we are stronger.

“With the attendance, we made a moment of history together

“It was a really good result and a fantastic performance - congratulations to the boys!

“I think we played very good football - we were totally in control of the game, totally in control of the game!

“In the first half, we missed some details which could have got us the advantage but the team was always in control, good possession of the ball. And in the second half we just go for it, we knew the game was there for us so we went for it.

“Everybody is growing, anyone who comes in is taking their chance and we are growing together - it is all about the squad, it is not about just the team or the individual players, it is about the squad.

“It was a good game, there are nights like this but the boys had to work very hard to earn this kind of performance and we can still improve, there are details that we can improve and we will try to do that on Saturday, this is our day.”

The win did see Wolves go top of the Sky Bet Championship with 26 points from 12 games.

When asked about his side’s position in the table, Nuno admitted he was happy but said that the hard work continues as he turns his attention next Saturday as Wolves face Preston North End at Molineux.

Nuno continued, “The table doesn’t mean anything, it’s a good three points - it’s good to be there but we have to sustain the performance which keeps you there in that position.

“We send a message to ourselves - we are back in work on Monday as we have a tough game next Saturday against Preston.”
