Jota Delighted With Win

Diogo Jota was delighted with the manner in which Wolves won on Saturday as they beat Burton Albion 4-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Portugal Under-21 international scored Wolves’ first goal in the fifth minute before goals from Romain Saiss, Ruben Vinagre and Leo Bonatini sealed the win for the visitors.

Jota was delighted that Wolves were able to get off to a good start in the game, something that he says his team hasn’t always been able to do so far this season.

He said, “these are the kind of results that we want and against Burton we finally got one of those results - it’s important for our team to keep growing up.

“The things that we haven’t been able to do in other matches is starting well - of course when you start with two goals in the first ten minutes, that gives the team more confidence to make a good game.

“Sometimes we give too much time to the opponent to gain confidence in their game - today, we made a great start and that was important.”

Jota started in the middle of a front three of himself, Ivan Cavaleiro and Holder Costa, a trio who haven’t started a game together yet so far this season.

The 20 year old, who has now scored six goals for Wolves this season says as long as he is playing, he is happy to play anywhere to help the team.

“It was a different position for me but we knew that their team wanted to press us high and there would be space in behind their defence,” continued Jota.

“We tried to achieve exploiting that space and hopefully we did that.

“A player wants to be always playing, this is the most important thing but each game is a different game with a different strategy.

“Therefore, some games I might have to play in a different position but that isn’t important to me.

“I never think about how many goals I am going to score over the season and it isn’t something that I will be thinking about now either.

“I just want to keep going and help the team to win. Playing in a different position, I can achieve different opportunities to score different kinds of goals - I’ll take whatever comes my way.

“Of course the result at Sheffield wasn’t the result that we wanted so to come back against Burton and get the three points was the most important thing.

“We go into the international break and some players go like me, but when we arrive back we just want to keep going and win again.”
