Another Brick In The Wall

Gaffer's thoughts on important win

Walter Zenga tonight hailed an important victory against an impressive Brentford side as Wolves made it back-to-back wins against the Bees at Molineux.

A Joao Teixeira brace shortly after half time put Wolves in control only for Sullay Kaikai to bring the visitors back into the game before Ivan Cavaleiro broke free to seal the 3-1 victory in added time.

The win against a team with just one defeat in seven took Wolves back up to eighth place in the Sky Bet Championship table.

“It was a difficult game for us against a team which are very organised and have had some very good results and have been playing very well,” said the Head Coach.

“I like this team and so in the end the three points are very important and gives us a little bit of consistency.

“We approached the game well apart from the first ten minutes when we maybe played too many long balls which is not our style.

“After that the attitude of the players was fantastic.

“We went on to play a very good game and in the end the win was deserved.”

Teixeira proved pivotal in providing the breakthrough, set up nicely by Helder Costa for his first goal, and then adding his second before Cavaleiro also notched his first for the club.

“We have to be patient with the players and trust them,” added Zenga.

“Joao played a very nice game and a lot of other players did as well.

“Joao is growing into the team and so far Helder and Ivan – we are going to need help from everybody in the squad.

“I like that the fans are continuing to support the team and continuing to push the team.

“The fans love when the team run and put their attitude on and then after that they love the dribbling and the good goals.

“We can’t forget that it is a long season and with everybody together we can arrive where we want to be.

“It says on the wall in the tunnel that the strength of the wolf is in the pack and we need to transfer that onto the pitch.”

Zenga has been pleased with the response to the leaking of late goals against Burton and Barnsley, but equally says it is important not to get too carried away.

“It was just the last 15 minutes against Barnsley,” said Zenga.

“We are not now in the sky for two good results in a row like we were not in hell when we lost against Barnsley.

“We learn from what happened against Burton and in those last minutes against Barnsley.

“We have to not lose our concentration, we have to keep going, and we know that we have put another brick in the wall.

“I always think our best game is going to be the next one.

“What is done is done.

“We will enjoy this but then straightaway start thinking about Tuesday.

“We will have to be 100 per cent again when we play against Wigan.”

The Head Coach is also not looking too far ahead in terms of what he believes is possible to achieve this season.

“We came in five days before the start of the season and I had never been in this football in this lovely country before,” he added.

“I have made some mistakes too but this is part of the job and only the people that do nothing never make any mistakes.

“The important thing is to believe in the project and believe in what you want to do and not forget where you have come from or where you want to go.

“I don’t know yet what we can do this season.

“We know we have something to fight for and to believe in and that is very important.

“We don’t want to just stay in the middle of the rankings without a chance – we have to believe we have a chance.

“I don’t want to see the rankings in the league until September – I honestly don’t even know where we are now.”
