A Difficult Game

Walter Zenga says Wolves must continue to work hard to improve after a hard-fought goalless draw with Ipswich at Molineux.

Visiting keeper Bartosz Bialkowski pulled off a superb save in each half from Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s penalty and then Helder Costa’s shot, while Daryl Murphy had a header disallowed for Ipswich in a game of few chances.

Despite any frustration at not taking all three points the Head Coach was pleased to add another to the tally and ensures Wolves are now four games unbeaten heading into Saturday’s big derby at Birmingham.

“It was a very difficult game,” said Zenga.

“We know Ipswich play in this style.

“They are a physical team and didn’t let us play and we must understand that we need to get the ball down and play with our quality.

“Step by step we will arrive to do these things.

“Our regret is that we missed a penalty which could have changed the complexion of the game and then there was a great save in the second half by their keeper from Costa.

“We had those two chances but there were two great saves.

“They had a goal that was disallowed and in the end we must be happy to take a point.

“We know we need to improve and we also need to understand that we cannot win every game.

“It is important for us to improve every day and work hard because that is the only way we can achieve something.

“We need to take things game by game and day by day and we will now be ready for Birmingham.

“We cannot win every game and it is four games unbeaten.

“Now we have another tough game against Birmingham.”

Zenga acknowledges Wolves need to add to the squad before the end of the transfer window to ensure they are able to keep players fresh in such a hectic spell of fixtures.

“It is a long season as I say every time,” he says.

“We need to improve our squad because tonight some players were very tired and I appreciated the effort they gave.

“They gave everything that they have inside.

“We have four defenders and only two strikers in Bodvarsson and Mason.

“This is normal because we arrived only two weeks ago and what should have happened in July is now happening when the season has started.

“We are working on it and have a good staff who are working hard and before the end of the window our squad will be stronger.

“As many points as we can get during this period will be our benefit.

“We must think about the solution and not the problem and my solution is to work hard with these players.

“One point is a very important point and two games without conceding is another good thing for the team.

“We have to build up the season from here.”

One of the new signings Helder Costa enjoyed a runout in the second half this evening and produced some good moments, particularly the shot that drew a fine save from Bialkowski.

“We need to choose the right time to put Costa on because it might be that their left back is becoming tired,” said Zenga.

“The speed and quality from Costa can create some problems and he did.”
