Improving With Experience

Kevin Thelwell on the development of Hause and Iorfa

Kevin Thelwell believes that the experience gained by young players such as Kortney Hause and Dominic Iorfa can only help Wolves improve next season.

Hause and Iorfa have both come through the Academy system at Wolves, from Under-21 and Under-18 levels respectively, and are further evidence of the benefits to be gained from a flourishing youth system which recently retained its Category One status (Click here to view story).

Although both only 20, Hause has already chalked up 92 senior appearances in his career, and Iorfa 75, a development which Thelwell believes was clear to see at the summer’s successful Toulon tournament with England Under-21s.

“It is always very pleasing to see young players come through and break into the first team and the more the play the better they will get” said Wolves Head of Football Development and Recruitment Kevin Thelwell.

“One big example of that for me was the summer tournament for England Under-21s in Toulon which I watched very closely.

“I think the comparison for Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause to last year’s tournament - where they were less experienced - it was almost like night and day really.

“If you didn’t know and were picking out the players in that team who belonged to the champions Leicester or were playing for Arsenal, I think you would have picked our two.

“It’s a big statement, but that is based on the experience they have built up over the last couple of seasons at Wolves.

“And we as a club will be better for it at the start of next season.

“Those two lads have got a lot of games under their belts now - they may be only 20 but they are not inexperienced any more and have benefitted from all those games that they have played.”
