High Intensity

Saville on Wolves' need for home comforts

George Saville is hoping Wolves can take a higher intensity into Saturday’s first home game under Paul Lambert – and build on the point gained at Preston at the weekend.

Wolves are without a point at home since late September, and have lost their last three at Molineux, which co-incided with their slump down the Sky Bet Championship table.

Lambert has checked in at Wolves aiming to introduce more intensity to the team’s game, and Saville came in for his first start since August at Deepdale, in the left midfield role from which he notched several goals last season.

“It was good to be back involved – every player wants to play,” said Saville.

“We’ve had a good couple of weeks under the new gaffer.

“This was a good point away from home and something to build on.

“I think when a new Head Coach comes in, especially one like the gaffer that has come in, it gives everyone a clean slate.

“He has done that with all of us and then it is up to us to respond and put the performances in.

“The gaffer’s approach is to look for high intensity for us and I think that is massive in this league to win games.

“Some games in the Championship it is very hard to play pretty football and all the games are very hard to win.

“The main thing is to be ‘in’ every game and give yourselves a chance to win.

“That is what it was like at Preston – it certainly wasn’t pretty at all.

“But we took a great point and that gives us something to build on.”

Saville was utilised away from his natural central midfield position in the game against Preston, but, just as he did last season, added some balance to the midfield.

“Any player is happy when they are in the team,” he added.

“It is not my natural position but I still enjoy it and played there last season and scored a couple of goals from there as well.

“I think the gaffer is looking for me to give a bit of balance across the midfield and it is up to me to perform there.”

Sheffield Wednesday visit Molineux on Saturday (3pm), with tickets available for home fans in all areas at half price.

Saville believes it is time for Wolves to give the fans something to cheer about.

“Now we are back to a home game and it is up to us to put another performance in,” he said.

“We are all going to be putting in 100 per cent every game and the workrate will not be questioned.

“We will be giving our best every week and hopefully results will come.

“Once we get a few results I think confidence will grow and things can start to happen for us.

“We’ve got some great fans here and we know we need to get them results at home.

“You could see on Saturday what great fans we have with the following we took to Preston.

“We haven’t had the best results at home and we need to go out there on Saturday and give them something to cheer about.”
