Nouha Dicko admitted his return to the first team was bitter-sweet, after Wolves fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich City on Saturday evening.
After over a year on the sidelines following the cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained in the early weeks of last season, Dicko was introduced as a second half substitute against the Canaries, but couldn't prevent Wolves slipping to their second successive league defeat.
His comeback was almost capped with a goal but, after Michael McGovern smothered Dicko's shot at one end, Norwich went on to double their lead through Robbie Brady's effort a matter of minutes later. Dave Edwards' header then gave Wolves hope, but the visitors held on for the points.
After the game, Dicko said: "I wish I had scored that chance, but these things happen in football.
“It's a fine line between being the hero and being left disappointed. They then scored a great second goal, which came when we were really getting into the game.
"We all know about the Championship though, and we know we'll have lots of opportunities to bounce back."
Despite the disappointment of the result, Dicko was full of praise for the Wolves fans who gave him a rapturous welcome as he was introduced into the action.
He added: "The reception was great - the kind of thing you dream of.
“I would have loved to have paid the fans back by scoring - I didn't manage it but I wasn't far off, so hopefully soon I will be back scoring goals.
"I was looking forward to a moment like this and it was an unbelievable feeling when the fans showed their appreciation towards me.
“I'd like to thank them for that and for all the support they've given me through these last 13 months.
"It's difficult for any footballer - any sportsman - to be told that you've damaged ligaments.
“You know you'll be out for a long time and you're desperate to come back.
“I've tried to be positive and do everything right in the time I've been out.
"Now I'm just happy to be back. There's a lot more to come from me and I want to show that to the fans."
