We want to do better

Following a season below expectations, James Henry looks for an improvement and targets promotion in 2016/17.

Henry explained that Wolves' 14th-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship was not what the side wanted but was understandable following a tough season.

He said: “It was an average season really. We would have liked to have done better.

“Under the circumstances, with injuries and not being able to sign some of the players we would have liked to, it’s probably not been all that bad.

“I think we showed good character at times when we lost key players; Nouha Dicko, Jordan Graham, Dave Ewards and the list goes on.

“We showed some good team spirit through some tough patches to make sure that we were never in any danger of going down.

“A comfortable, mid-table finish, nowhere near relegation.

“We still want to do better. Everyone wants to go for those top three spots and hopefully we can do that next season."

With injured players set to return over the summer period, the winger believes a stronger squad will help Wolves push up the league table.

“You look at the teams that get promoted and they’ve normally got a 90% availability and we’ve had nowhere near that this season," explained Henry.

“The two previous seasons when we won League 1 and came close to the Championship Play-Offs we probably did have that.

“Hopefully getting those players back towards the start of next season will be like a load of new signings."

The 26-year-old was one of three nominees for Wolves' Player of the Season and Henry was pleased with his campaign.

“It was really nice to be nominated," said Henry before adding: "I’m sure at the start of the season every player dreams of winning something like that.

“It was an honour to be one of the three nominated.

“I think I’ve had an okay season, chipped in with a few goals and assists and managed to keep my shirt for the majority of the year.

“Personally, I feel it’s been a good season but I’m always looking to improve and hopefully I can go one further next year.

"I almost got to ten goals this year and it would be nice to achieve that next season."

Reflecting on 2015/16, Henry recalled some of his favourite moments from the season.

“I was actually injured for one of the games, I really enjoyed watching George Saville come back into the team and do so well," said the winger.

“His two goals at home against Derby were excellent.

“From a personal point of view, my goal against Bolton and the team's performance against Fulham away from home were particular favourites.

“We played very, very well against Fulham that night and it could have been an even bigger scoreline.

“I chipped in with a nice goal as well but the whole team performance that night was really good."
