Wolves are back at Molineux on Saturday afternoon with Brentford the visitors to the Black Country and wolves.co.uk has looked at what to expect from this weekend’s Premier League clash.
1 | Roll Call
Rob Edwards will be without several defenders for the visit of Brentford to Molineux on Saturday, with Emmanuel Agbadou, Yerson Mosquera and Hugo Bueno all missing from the squad due to Africa Cup of Nations call-ups, suspension and injury respectively. Agbadou has been joined by forward Tawanda Chirewa in departing the club for AFCON this week where they will represent Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe, while Mosquera will serve a one-game suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Arsenal last weekend. Hugo Bueno remains out, although Edwards is confident the left-back will return next week, but the game comes too soon for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Marshall Munetsi and Rodrigo Gomes who are all out with long-term issues.
Former Wolves captain Keith Andrews could be without two key players for Saturday's clash, after both Jordan Henderson and Igor Thiago were not included in the squad for Brentford's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening. The pair are expected to take late fitness tests to see if they will be able to participate at Molineux this weekend. Josh Dasilva remains sidelined with a knee ligament injury, while Fabio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo are both out for the rest of the season due to ACL injuries. Frank Onyeka and Dango Ouattara are also unavailable due to their AFCON call-ups for Nigeria and Burkina Faso respectively.

3 | Journey to Saturday
It was the same old story for Wolves in the capital last Saturday evening as another late, late goal condemned Edwards’ side to another loss – their 14th in 16 Premier League games so far this season. After coming close at Villa Park a few weeks ago to earning their first league win of the campaign, Wolves were moments away from claiming an unlikely, but deserving, point on the road at Arsenal after Tolu Arokodare’s 90th minute equaliser, but Yerson Mosquera’s own goal – the second time Wolves had put past their own net in the game – ensured luck was not on the Old Gold’s side once again.
Jordan Henderson’s first Premier League goal since 2021 had given Brentford the lead over Leeds last Sunday, but a late Dominic Calvert-Lewin header ensured the points were shared in a game of few chances. Brentford also had a penalty chalked off by VAR as they searched for a first win since November’s 3-1 victory over Burnley. The Bees are now winless in four, having previously been beaten by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur before Manchester City knocked Andrews’ side out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stages on Wednesday evening. Their last away win came at West Ham United in October.
4 | Costa downs the Bees at Molineux
Wolves’ only Premier League win against Brentford at Molineux came during the 2022/23 season, when Diego Costa’s one and only goal in gold and black set Wolves on their way to an important three points which would give Julen Lopetegui’s side further breathing space from the relegation zone.
After Costa capped his best performance since coming out of retirement to represent the Old Gold the previous September, substitute Hee Chan Hwang doubled the host’s advantage in the second half, capitalising on Ethan Pinnock’s failure to deal with Matheus Nunes’ cross after the Portuguese had turned the Brentford backline inside out.
Following victory over Chelsea the previous week, the win lifted Wolves up to 13th in the Premier League standings, while condemning a high-flying Brentford to a third successive defeat in the top flight – their worst run of the season.
