Dissecting some of most important Wolves goals under the ownership of Fosun which, although they’re not known as Goal of the Season contenders, were hugely significant in the club’s recent history.
Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa | 14th October 2017
Wolves’ promotion charge in 2017/18 really gained momentum in the October and a win derby victory over Aston Villa under the lights.
It was also a glimpse of the excitement Diogo Jota would stir amongst Wolves fans, as he collected Ivan Cavaleiro’s cross, took it past the defender and rifled a shot into the roof of the Villa net, setting the Old Gold on their way to a 2-0 success.
“It was a good game. There are nights like this, but the lads worked really hard to achieve this performance. I think we played very good football, we were in total control of the game, and I think in the first half we missed some details which could give us the advantage, but the team was always in control, good possession of the ball, and the second half we knew the game was there for us and we went for it.” Nuno Espirito Santo
“I thought the boys were really on the gas today. We didn’t really let them have much of a breather, we kept the ball, we moved it well, and at the right times we got the goals. We have to make sure we’re clinical in that area of the pitch and create chances, and get into positions where we can score goals, and we did that second half.” Danny Batth
The lasting impression
Later in October Wolves moved top of the league and it’s a position they never relinquished. The following May they played their most recent Championship match to date, remaining in the Premier League since.
Villa had to make do with the play-offs, where they went on to lose in the Wembley final against Fulham.
