The Fan Inside | Hee Chan Hwang

Hee Chan Hwang discusses his football fan experiences as a child growing up in South Korea as the country hosted its first World Cup in 2002.

My team when I grew up…

“I supported Bucheon FC and Pohang Steelers when I grew up in South Korea.”

My first game as a fan…

“I can’t remember what my first game as a fan was, but since Bucheon is my hometown, I often went to watch their matches. I then lived in Pohang from secondary school, so I would go and watch Pohang games every week.”

A memorable game as a fan…

“I can remember that I watched the World Cup in 2002 when it was in Korea and Japan. Our family went to the stadium in Incheon to watch South Korea play Portugal and we enjoyed the match together. The result was South Korea won the game 1-0.”

The last game I attended as a fan…

“I cannot remember what the last game was that I went to before I came to England, but the most recent match I attended live here was to watch Wolverhampton against Manchester United after I signed for the club. At the moment, I sincerely want to play in front of the Wolves supporters as often as possible.”

A worldwide game I’d like to go to…

“For me, Premier League matches are the best in the world, but I do hope to play Champions League matches with Wolverhampton in the future. Furthermore, I want to play World Cup matches as well with South Korea national team.”

A Wolves away day I’d like to be a fan at…

“I was so astonished when I visited Molineux stadium first time. For me, Molineux stadium is the best in the Premier League.”
