Seven-goal thriller on Big Match Revisited

The Dicko, Afobe, Sako partnership is fondly recalled in the latest Big Match Revisited which looks at a dramatic victory over Leeds United from 2015 on Monday at 8pm.

In episode four of the Old Gold Club Big Match Revisited, Mikey Burrows and Chris Iwelumo welcome a whole host of guests to reminisce on the 4-3 win, which kept Championship play-off hopes very much alive for Kenny Jackett’s side.

Carl Ikeme, Scott Golbourne, Nouha Dicko, Kevin McDonald, Jack Price and Dave Edwards all check in to give their own unique insight on the seven-goal thriller at a rocking Molineux.

Wolves recovered from falling behind by racing 3-1 ahead through a pair of Dicko goals and a Benik Afobe strike, before allowing Leeds to claw their way back to 3-3. However, Edwards’ header two minutes from time ensured it was Wolves fans who’d be talking about the victory for years to come.

Mikey, who covered the game at the time, remembers: “At this stage of the season Wolves, who’d just come back up as champions under Kenny Jackett, had got things moving and were chasing down a play-off place.

“It was Easter Monday, we’d just been to Forest on the Saturday and picked up an awesome win with a brilliant goal from Benik Afobe. Leeds, who were in a bit of trouble really, had changed managers in this season and were here to spoil our party.”

Iwelumo was also part of the Sky Sports team broadcasting the game and recalls: “This was a live Sky game and I remember I was down at Vicarage Road, Watford Middlesbrough, and I did both games on the day.

“Wolves were hitting a bit of form at the right time, there was less than 10 games to go in the season, and they had a good chance to get into the play-off positions. The team itself, you look at the players, quality, good characters and players, and a fantastic collective unit.

“I remember the place was absolutely bouncing, the fans were up for it and that makes it a little bit easier for the players to get up for it. This was some game.”
