The former midfielder, who is back as a half-time guest for Friday’s Fulham fixture, spent seven years at Molineux, winning the 1977 Second Division and 1980 League Cup.
The subject of a £80,000 move from Coventry City, Carr explained how he felt no pressure on his shoulder and let his football do the talking at Molineux.
“I loved my time at Wolves but didn’t feel any pressure of the price tag. I almost moved for £250,000 a few months earlier, so Wolves got a bargain,” he joked.
“I failed a medical the first time because they found a fracture on my knee, so when I came back they didn’t bother with one and I went on to play into my 30s.”
Thrown into the heat of a First Division clash with Chelsea on debut, Carr quickly acclimatized to Molineux life and never looked back.
“A 7-1 win over Chelsea was the perfect way to start my Wolves career. We were close to each other in the table so it was a big win and to score was great.
“I liked a goal I scored at West Ham most though, I played a one-two with Steve Daley on the halfway line, ran through and chipped it over the goalkeeper.
“There was also one I got at Stoke from 25 yards, which was unusual for me. It swerved past Peter Shilton.”
However, like many of his team mates, it is the 1980 League Cup victory at Wembley which is closest to Carr’s heart when he reminisces.
“I was 30 and thought the chance at Wembley had passed me by. Every footballer wanted to play there and as I was older I could take it all in. That was a great day.”
Still in touch with many of his team mates from that day, Carr will be back at Molineux on Friday night hoping to bump into a few familiar faces.
“I still live in the area and speak to a lot of the lads, particularly ‘Hibby’ (Kenny Hibbitt), Steve Daley and Phil Parkes, as they come to former player events.
“I do like the way Wolves are playing this season, I saw the Aston Villa and Preston games and it’s good to watch.”
