Wolves continue to support #HerGameToo

In April 2022, Wolves, alongside the Wolves Foundation, became one of the first Premier League clubs to formally support the #HerGameToo initiative to raise awareness of, and help eradicate, sexism in football.

#HerGameToo, which launched in May 2021, aims to create further awareness about the problems supporters, particularly women and girls, can face both on matchdays and online. Founded by passionate female football fans across the UK, #HerGameToo also aims to promote a game where women are welcomed and feel safe doing something they love.

Almost three years on, the non-profit organisation continues to be run by volunteers dedicated to eliminating sexism in football and championing women across the sport. Their goal is for women and girls to feel safe and confident expressing their views on football both online and in real life, without facing sexist abuse.

Emma Milton, #HerGameToo ambassador for Wolves, said: “There has recently been a rise in anti-feminist voices, so it is important to empower women to speak out and ensure their voices are heard and valued.

“Sexism reinforces harmful stereotypes and misogyny, so it’s important to act when someone crosses the line. Ignoring sexism just makes it seem okay, so it's really important to tackle this issue.

“Sexism just reinforces damaging stereotypes and misogyny, so it's essential to call it out when someone crosses the line. #HerGameToo is all about empowering women to feel secure and confident voicing their opinions on football without fear of sexist abuse.

“We hear numerous times that it’s just a joke, but sexism can be damaging and have detrimental effects on a person's mental and physical health. It can instil feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem in those who are targeted.

“Individuals may feel compelled to silence themselves or suppress their thoughts and opinions to avoid backlash or discrimination. By challenging this behaviour, we can work towards building a society where respect and equality are the norm for everyone – brushing off sexism only normalises it, so it’s crucial to address this.”

How to report

If something doesn’t feel right, you can liaise directly with the nearest steward or police officer, as well as report confidentially through the Wolves ‘Not in our Pack’ matchday reporting text line which is monitored in real time during the game and allows for the club to monitor the situation.

The text reporting number is 07723 479 887 and supporters should start their message with the word WOLVES, followed by details of what is being reported and their seat number.

Incidents can also be reported on hergametoo.co.uk or to @wolvesHGT on social media.
