The university have been a long-standing partner of Wolves and will continue as the Academy’s front of shirt sponsor, while working with the club to offer placements to students, allowing them to gain vital experience at the start of their career.
During the past few seasons, the partnership has also allowed the opportunity for unique experiences for students, such as the chance for both undergraduate students and alumni to host a coaching session for prospective students on the Molineux pitch.
Last year, students also had opportunity to ask questions to members of the Wolves first-team about their experiences of good coaching and what the qualities are of a good coach.
The scale of the partnership has not just been limited to just a local UK focus, with students from Podar College in Mumbai completing a joint project set by the club and the university with the aim of growing the Wolves brand within the South Asian city.
The partnership also caught the eye of a Wolves fan living in California when they spotted the university’s logo on the pitchside LED boards, and following on from this, the university helped their dreams come true as the student was able to study in the city of their favourite football club.
Wolves and the University of Wolverhampton also worked together to host the first live Esports event to take place in the city which was held at the university’s Arena Theatre.
Russell Jones, Wolves’ general manager of marketing and commercial growth, said: “As two of the city’s most progressive international institutions, the extension of our partnership is excellent news. Wolves and the university share so many values, and most importantly, a passion and commitment to see Wolverhampton thrive.
“The success of our partnership has been based on supporting each other’s growth mindset and providing life-changing student enrichment opportunities.
“We are very proud to see both the university and its students prosper from its partnership with the football club and we look forward to exploring many other opportunities together in the coming months and years.”
Emma Bull, university registrar at the University of Wolverhampton, added: “The university is delighted to be continuing our long-established partnership with Wolves.
“Our students gain valuable experience in a range of roles at the club, and as close neighbours we continue to work together on initiatives to benefit and support our local communities.
“One of our most recent joint ventures involved working with Wolves Esports to host the first ever live esports event in the city as part of the launch of our brand-new Screen School, and we hope to build on successful events like this in the future.”
Pawel Krystkiewicz, a second year student on the University’s BSc (Hons) Football Coaching and Performance course, has been involved in coaching and analysis for Wolves Academy.
He said: “It's a great opportunity to work in a professional environment and see how it looks from the inside. My placement allowed me to meet people with huge experience in football and discussions with other coaches has given me the chance to develop as a coach.”
