The match will take place on Saturday, 24th March (5.15pm kick-off) and act as vital preparation for the Young Lions’ Euro 2019 qualifier with Ukraine in Sheffield three days later.
Molineux is a memorable venue for the U21s, as their last visit to the stadium saw Saido Berahino and Harry Kane on target as England secured a valuable 2-1 win over Croatia in the first-leg of their Euro 2015 play-off in 2014.
Discussing the international fixture, Wolves Managing Director, Laurie Dalrymple said: “It’s an honour for the club to once again host an England U21 fixture at Molineux. The game is a testament to both our stadium as an international facility and the fantastic base of local football supporters.
“An attendance of over 23,000 in England U21s’ game at Molineux in 2014 highlights the appetite for football in Wolverhampton and, as a club, we look forward to welcoming supporters of all clubs from the surrounding areas back to the stadium in March.”
Wolves also played host to an U21 fixture in 2008 against Poland.
And the connections don’t end there.
A number of Wolves players have represented England at U21 level over the years, including Steve Bull, Michael Kightly, Matt Murray, Joleon Lescott, Richard Stearman and the late Dean Richards.
U21s head coach Aidy Boothroyd said: “We’re really looking forward to heading to Wolves for our opening game of 2018. Romania will provide a tough test in what will be our first fixture in four months.
“The stadium is a top-class venue and an enjoyable place to play and watch football. Hopefully we can put on a very good show.”
