Fundraiser For Cure Leukaemia

Fans can still pop to WV1 on Saturday to enjoy an afternoon of family fun, meet some of Wolves’ former players and support Carl Ikeme and Cure Leukaemia.

Long-serving supporter Steve Plant, who led a group of fans in the 24-hour penalty shootout at Molineux prior to the first game of the season with Middlesbrough, is putting on the event, which runs from 12noon-6pm.

And Carl himself has sent a message to thank everyone who is organising the event or attending as he continues to receive treatment in his battle against the disease.

“I just want to thank everyone again for their ongoing love and support as I continued to receive treatment,” says Carl.

“It has made a big difference to me to have received messages from so many people not only from Wolves but all the football family.

“The amount of money raised for Cure Leukaemia has been fantastic and will really help the charity in their vital work.

“Good luck to Steve Plant and everyone involved for Saturday’s next fundraising event in WV1 - I hope you all have a great time!

“I am keen to also try and raise awareness of the need for more bone marrow donors to come forward, and am hoping to announce more information on this in the coming weeks.

“Thanks again. Carl.”

Players set to appear at tomorrow’s event in WV1 comprise John Richards, Steve Daley, Kenny Hibbitt, Mel Eves, Andy Thompson, Andy Mutch, Phil Parkes, Gary Pierce, Sam Ricketts and Aaron McCarey.  (See below for approximate timetable which remains subject to change)

All the former players will be available for autographs and photos and will be interviewed by various hosts for the afternoon including Daz Hale, Mikey Burrows, Steve Saul and Jason Guy.

The bar will be open throughout whilst Wolfie and Wendy are due to pop in between 2pm and 3.30pm to meet young guests – and the more elder if they so wish!

During the afternoon various excellent items - including match worn shirts and boots - will be auctioned off for Cure Leukaemia to add to the £13,500 already raised from the shootout.

The chance to join the Wolves groundstaff and help out on a Molineux matchday is another of the auction items up for grabs.

An impressive lego recreation of Molineux produced by Jules Richards will also be on show, and will be among many raffle prizes raising money for the Birmingham-based charity.

Other activities on the day include a lucky dip, the True or False game, the chance for people to take on their heroes in a quiz, and sponsored head shaves and chest waxing!

In total over £70,000 has been raised via various channels to support Cure Leukaemia since Carl was diagnosed.

All those who have already donated via the website - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/theyworetheshirt - can just turn up on the day as their names will be on a list.

Pay on the door is also available in WV1 at £5 for adults and £2 for Under-16s.

Organisers would like to pass on grateful thanks to Rupert Bates and WhatHouse for their generous sponsorship of the event.

Rupert, who will be attending on the day, was a keen supporter of Carl and the team during WhatHouse’s period as main club sponsor of Wolves.

*Steve Daley and John Richards will be visiting between approximately 12.30pm and 1.15pm, Sam Ricketts and Aaron McCarey from 1.15-2pm, Gary Pierce and Phil Parkes from 2pm-2.45pm, Kenny Hibbitt and Mel Eves from 2.45pm-3.30pm, and Andy Thompson and Andy Mutch from 3.30pm-4.15pm.  The auction and raffle are scheduled for 5pm.
