Wolves Women have a shot at the FA WNL Northern Premier Division title – and automatic promotion to the WSL 2 - this Sunday as they face Halifax at the SEAH Stadium.
Going into the final league game of the season one point behind Burnley, the potential permutations at both ends of the table for both Wolves and their provide a end-of-season scenario that shall be looked at with intrigue.
The Permutations
With one league game remaining, Wolves know only a win will do to give them a realistic chance of claiming the third tier title, but they will need help from elsewhere. It’s Stoke City who the Old Gold will be looking at for a favour as they travel to Burnley on the final day. If Burnley fail to win against the Potters, Wolves will win the league with a victory . A draw could be enough given Wolves’ superior goal difference, but only if Burnley were to lose – something they have not done in the league all season.
It’s not quite as simple as that though, with opponents Halifax still looking to achieve retain third-tier status. Ahead of the final matches they are balanced precariously above the dotted line with only goal difference separating them and 11th placed Loughborough Lightning. With Lightning taking on bottom placed and already relegated Sporting Khalsa, Halifax know that safety is very much in their own hands. Defeat to Wolves could still keep them up, but only if Khalsa win.
Setting the Scene
Wolves’ preparations for the final game were dealt a blow last weekend as they were beaten in the Birmingham FA Challenge Cup Final by Rugby Borough, but home form in 2026 has been dominant having yet to concede in the league at the SEAH Stadium since the turn of the year.
Halifax drew 1-1 with relegation rivals Loughborough Lightning last time out to keep them outside the relegation zone.

Should Wolves not claim the league title on Sunday, they will face Plymouth Argyle in the FA WNL Northern/Southern Premier Division Play-Off to determine the final promotion place to WSL 2. The match takes place on Monday, 4th May, 1pm at the Pirelli Stadium, Burton-upon-Trent.
