Women's Report | Wolves 1-0 West Brom

Wolves 1 (Hughes 76’) West Bromwich Albion 0

Wolves Women earned three points against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Women’s National League at Molineux on Sunday afternoon.

Amber Hughes’ fantastic diving header in the final moments of the fixture was enough to guide Wolves to three points against their arch-rivals.

Wolves started brightly and Beth Merrick was first to cause a problem for the Albion defence in the opening exchanges.

McNamara’s side were forced to be patient with their attacking chances due to the defensive structure of the Baggies.

The Old Gold were fortunate not to concede when Taylor Reynolds struck the ball through the legs of Alex Brookes but failed to find the back of the net.

Half time | Wolves 0-0 West Bromwich Albion

After the interval, Wolves came out in confidence and created a variety of chances to test Charlotte Clarke but needed a goal to show their determination.

Wolves’ defensive duties had to be spot on while Albion continued to probe at the Wolves defence, with Georgia Marshall and Anna Morphet providing brave, last-minute challenges to keep the Baggies out.

The Old Gold did eventually break the deadlock on the 76th minute when Anna Morphet’s fantastic cross from deep was perfect for Hughes to guide past Clarke and give Wolves the advantage in the derby.

Wolves now have an opportunity to continue their fantastic run of form on Thursday 2 April against Rugby Borough at the SEAH Stadium.
