Following midweek success in the cup, Wolves Women return to league action on Sunday as they head to Loughborough Lightning looking to keep the pressure on leaders Burnley, knowing a Clarets slip up could put them back in the title race.
The Old Gold restored Black Country bragging rights on Wednesday with a 2-0 win against West Brom in the Birmingham Challenge Cup semi-final and now head to Leicestershire to face a Lightning side desperate for points in their battle against relegation.
Setting the Scene
Wolves’ defeat at Burnley last weekend was their first of the season and ended a 14 match league winning run, but head into the weekend full of confidence after the midweek win.
Loughborough are just three points off safety in the FA WNL, sat one place below Derby County – who Wolves beat 6-0 a fortnight ago. Despite picking up just two wins this season, Lightning have already proved a tough nut to crack this season with goalless draws against West Brom and Middlesbrough, and a 1-0 win over Hull City in recent weeks.
