McNamara | “The girls gave everything”

Dan McNamara has expressed his heartfelt feelings towards his squad after Wolves’ narrow 1-0 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday evening.

McNamara has also highlighted the amount of immense talent within his squad, alongside the fantastic travelling support on the final run in of the season and is committed to finishing the campaign with silverware.

His thoughts on the performance

“I am heartbroken for the girls because in my opinion the better team just lost.

“We knew it was going to be tough coming here but congratulations to Burnley, you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth – they're a great outfit.”

“They’ve got great players and I thought the girls gave everything.”

On the challenges Burnley caused

“It was always going to be difficult, full-time or not, I thought we were outstanding especially in that second half.

“I asked the girls to make sure they could come back in, and they’d left everything on the pitch, and I thought we did that, the game is cruel at times.

“We’ve got to take it on the chin.”

On remaining focused on promotion

“We set out at the start of the season to get into the top two to get us in the play-offs, it looks like that’s the way it’s going to be now.

“Four games left for Burnley and five for us and we want to make sure we cement that as quick as possible, I think another couple of points, and we get that over the line because there’s still something to work towards.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re ready to jump all over it if they slip up.”

On the travelling support

“I thought the fans were brilliant, they have been all year, it’s just a shame we couldn’t give them a point or three to go home with.

“I don’t think they will have anything other than being really proud of the girls and their efforts in the way they represent the club and represent them.”

On the two upcoming fixtures

“If they perform like they did in the second half I don’t think we’ll have any problems for the rest of the campaign.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re ready for Wednesday night against West Brom, a tough away day in the cup and we’d like to win the cup to mark our season and that gives us the best chance now so let’s see what Wednesday brings.”
