Hednesford 0 Wolves 12 (Cross 2, Johnson 8 & 55, Greengrass 24, 68, 73, 80, 82 & 86, Hughes 45, 59 & 68)

Wolves Women progressed into the next round of the Birmingham County Cup with a convincing 12-0 win over Hednesford Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Jade Cross and Katie Johnson began the scoring, before an Amber Hughes hat-trick and six from Charlotte Greengrass ensured Dan McNamara’s side secured the victory at Keys Park Stadium, maintaining the Old Gold’s unbeaten start to the season.

The Old Gold began the game on the front foot and opened the scoring within the first two minutes. Milly Robertson looked to notch up an assist on her debut, but her looping delivery was not converted by Hughes, only for Jade Cross to turn in the rebound.

It didn’t take the visitors long to double their lead. In the eighth minute Beth Merrick’s corner was parried straight into the path of Johnson, who nodded home.

Hednesford regained some control, limiting Dan McNamara’s side to long-range efforts, but as the game approached the halfway point of the first half Greengrass made it 3-0.

Robertson dodged a sliding tackle from Jess Booker before whipping the ball into Greengrass who passed the ball into Laylor’s far corner.

Clear-cut chances came at a premium from there on until the interval, but Hughes got herself on the scoresheet, again from a pinpoint delivery, this time from Jade Cross.

Half-time | Hednesford 0-4 Wolves

The second half continued much as the first ended, as Wolves opened the scoring within the opening ten minutes, as Johnson poked home from close range, doubling her tally for the afternoon.

In the 59th minute, Hughes also added her second, tapping a wicked cross past Laylor to make it six for the Old Gold.

Wolves then racked up a seventh goal with just over 20 minutes left on the clock. Beth Merrick’s low cross found Greengrass, who converted from just inside the six-yard box.

The visitors didn’t have to wait long for goal number eight as Hughes netted her third goal less than two minutes later. The forward struck from point-blank range to make it a hat-trick at the Keys Park Stadium.

McNamara’s side were gunning for another goal and found one in the 72nd minute. Louanne Worsey’s ball found Greengrass, who also netted for her hat trick.

The goals continued to flow, and another dangerous cross evaded Laylor as Greengrass met Lyndsey Harkin’s delivery. Greengrass added her fifth in the 82nd minute and completed her double hat-trick soon after to make it 12-0.
