Dan McNamara believes his Wolves Women squad has never had such strength in depth, after the signing of Louanne Worsey further bolstered his attacking options over the weekend.
The 20-year-old joined from Birmingham City on Saturday, and the following day played her first minutes in old gold in a pre-season friendly at Plymouth Argyle, seeing her bed into an attacking line-up filled with goals.
Charlotte Greengrass and Amy Sims scored in the win over Argyle, and as his group prepare for the first real test on 17th August, McNamara feels the club have struck the right balance between youth and experience, which could set the foundation for years to come.
On what to expect from Worsey
“It’s a fantastic signing for us as a club. Over the last few years, I've always been a big admirer Louanne and, for someone of such a young age, she’s got very good experience. She's been in and around tier three, obviously played at Forest and Burnley, and then she's got all the experiences from Birmingham City as well.
“Obviously, after a stellar season with Forest 18 months ago, she was called up to England under-19. So, it’s really good that we can attract such calibre of player. She's aggressive, she's technically superb. She's got real ability to win a game on her own if she wants to.
“She can come up with those moments of brilliance, so I’m really excited to get her in. Again, it's a statement of where we're trying to go as a club, a 20-year-old with so much talent and experience, with a massive future ahead of her.”
We ran out 2-1 winners over Plymouth Argyle in this afternoon’s pre-season friendly at Home Park. Charlotte Greengrass and Amy Sims were our goal scorers.

On bringing international experience
“We got really talented players in there and we want to try and create a group with real competitiveness to make sure that everyone's at it. We want people to be at it every week this year, and they know if they’re not at it there’s somebody ready to step in and take their shirt.
“It’s the first season we’ve managed to have such good squad depth, and it’s two youth internationals we've added over the summer with Anna Grey, so it's really exciting, and hopefully they can bring some of those experiences that they gained and help us drive towards what we're trying to achieve.”
On another contracted player
“We've had our chats with the chairman over the summer, and he's expressed to us what he wants the future to look like, and these kinds of players are what we want to try and base the future around.
“We look at who we brought in over the summer, they’re girls about to enter their prime years, or are just in their prime years. So, it's fantastic to see us put together such a young, but very experienced group. It's a good all-round blend and if you look at our group as a whole, it’s exciting for the next three, four years.”
On players proven at this level
“You want players who are going to come in and hit the ground running. I try to bring in players who are going to immediately improve the starting 11. Louanne is one of those who will be looking to make her mark on that starting 11. She's proven at this level, she's got good experience, she's scored goals at this level.
“It’s testament to her and the experiences she's got at such a young age. We spoke about what the season looks like for her, and she really wants to knuckle down. She really wants to focus on trying to get Wolves promoted into the Super League and have a good, consistent season herself, and hopefully we can provide what's going to be needed over the next few years to keep the talent and someone of her talent at such a young age.”
