New Wolves Women signing Georgia Marshall has high ambitions with the club as she sets her sights on helping the Old Gold to an elusive promotion this season.
The former Burnley and Huddersfield Town defender has plenty of experience of playing against Wolves for her previous clubs and having made the move with her former Clarets teammate Anna Grey, she’s looking forwards to being on the gold and black side this season.
On signing for Wolves
“It’s really exciting. It’s a good group of girls and it’s a team that always strives to be at the top of the league, so I’m really excited to be here.
“If you just look at like the past few seasons, Wolves have always been there or thereabouts when it comes to winning the league, and that’s my aspiration. I want to get to the next level and I feel like Wolves are the best team to do that with.”
On what the fans can expect
“They can expect someone who’s quite loud on the pitch and I like to communicate with the other defenders to help lead the line.
“I’m quite strong and enjoy winning aerial duels, winning tackles, and pretty good in possession too.”
On settling into the group
“They’ve all been really nice and really welcoming. They’ve welcomed me with open arms, everyone’s been really kind, and really friendly.
“It’s nice to come in with Anna because we know each other well and it’s obviously a lot easier to come into a big group who have all been with each other for a few years with another person you know, so I think it’ll help is both settle in well.”
On previous encounters with Wolves
“It’s quite exciting to be on this side of it now as the team’s I’ve played for in the past have always seemed to struggle against Wolves. Even at Huddersfield, we always seemed to get beat, so it’s nice to be on the opposite end and hopefully we can work together to beat the other teams.
“I always remember the games just being tough. Wolves have always been a really strong side, all over the pitch, and there’s not a weak section. Every single person in the team is really strong and they’ve always been a really tough opposition.”
On facing Burnley in the opening month of the season
“It’s definitely going to be a weird feeling to play against them as I spent a couple of seasons at Burnley, but it’s also going to be exciting because when you go up against your friends, you want to go a little bit harder, so I think it’ll be a good contest.”
On aims for the season
“The main aim this season is to get promoted. Then for myself, I just want to keep improving and keep developing areas in my game that need a bit of work.”
