Grey | ‘Wolves are a team I’m excited to be part of’

Anna Grey is excited to be pulling on the gold and black shirt of Wolves this season after the former Burnley winger made the move to the Midlands.

Grey will be joined by her former Clarets teammate Georgia Marshall in the Old Gold ranks for the 2025/26 FAWNL campaign as the pair both signed up to Dan McNamara’s squad from their Northern Premier Division rivals.

But Wolves Women’s new number seven is determined to ensure her current club will come out on top against her old one, not only in their league meeting at the SEAH Stadium in a month’s time, but also in the battle for WSL2 promotion.

On joining Wolves

“It feels great to have signed for the club. I watched them last season and Wolves are definitely a team that I’m excited to be a part of.

“They were competitive games that we had against them last season, although Wolves came out on top in the end, so now I’m looking forwards to doing the same again with Wolves.

“But for me, Macca is a huge part of being here. I think he’s a great coach and I’m really looking forwards to working with him.”

On what she’ll bring to the team

“The supporters can expect to see a fast, direct and hard-working player well. I’ve always been very committed to the team, very hard-working, but also direct and pacey as well, so that’s what I’ll bring to the team.”

On having a familiar face to help settle

“I’ve been here for a few days now so had a few chances to get to know them and they all seem like really nice girls. Obviously, I already know Georgia, so it’s nice to have a familiar face starting with me too.

“Georgia’s a really nice girl, a really good teammate, and we always got on when we were together at Burnley, so having her here with me will definitely help me settle.

“She’s a good player on the pitch as well, so hopefully we’ll have that bit of chemistry which will help the team.”

On the first home game of the season against Burnley

“I’m excited to go up against them, especially so early in the season. It’s always good to go up against an old club, plus there’s a bit of rivalry there already with Burnley and Wolves, so it’ll be good game and I’m looking forwards to it.

“I suppose it’ll be a little bit strange, but going up against a former club is something I’ve done in the past. As you move clubs, that’s something which is always going to happen in football, but I’m really looking forwards to it.”

On aiming for promotion

“For the team, we’re obviously looking to finish at the top or as near the top as possible. Promotion has got to be the main goal for all of us as a team.

“For me personally, I just want to be part of that promotion and help as much as possible with what I bring on the pitch.”
