Key Wolves Women quartet commit for 2025/26

Dan McNamara’s Wolves Women squad has been handed a boost ahead of the 2025/26 season with four prominent members of the team committing to the club for the next 12 months.

Goal scoring duo Amber Hughes and Charlotte Greengrass – who went head-to-head until the final game of last season to claim the league’s Golden Boot – as well as fan’s favourites Beth Merrick and Becky Anderson will remain with the club this year after committing their future to the Old Gold.

During the summer, McNamara has been putting his squad plans in place for the upcoming FAWNL Northern Premier Division campaign, which has included bringing new faces into the side as well as tying existing players down to part-time contracts.

Within the hybrid model the women’s first-team currently operate under, the manager has also been securing the future of some of the key members of his squad who cannot commit to part-time contracts due to their work commitments outside of football, but still have incredibly important roles to play in the squad.

“Amber, Beth, Charlotte and Bec Anderson were a huge part of last year,” McNamara explained. “They’ve shown just how much quality they have, and for the four of them, their commitment is going to be a little bit different to the other players within the group.

“Due to their jobs and responsibilities outside of football, being part-time does not work for them, but the hybrid model we use at Wolves allows them to fit football in around their lives.

“For me, the important thing is keeping the players who represent myself and the football club in a brilliant way, and they have done for years, so I’m delighted they have all committed to play for Wolves next season and, again, it shows real intent.”

Together with securing Abbi Jenner and Beth Roberts to part-time contracts and the statement signing of Amy Sims from Nottingham Forest, McNamara’s squad for the upcoming campaign is beginning to take shape.

And the manager believes the confirmation of Hughes, Greengrass, Merrick and Anderson being part of the side for 2025/26 demonstrates the desire, drive and determination of the club doing everything possible to achieve their targets this year.

“There’s upwards of 50 goals a season within those four alone, so for us to tie them down really early and make sure they’re going to be part of this group going forward was absolutely key because players come to play with the best players in the league.

“I hope that’s going to now show the intent and the ambition of the club next season, and hopefully we can tie down another few targets that we’ve got in mind who can add to a really exciting group.

“We want to add some real quality, but we don’t just want to bring anyone in, we want to bring in the right people, the right characters, to make sure that we’re all striving in the right direction, because as a group we feel we can really push on again next season and go all the way.”
