Dan McNamara was pleased with his Wolves Women side after they secured a 5-1 victory against Liverpool Feds in the FAWNL on Sunday.
An early goal from Georgia Marshall was cancelled out by Feds before Charlotte Greengrass, Amber Hughes and two strikes from Anna Morphet completed the scoring.
McNamara gave his thoughts on the performance, the strike partnership between Greengrass and Hughes, as well as the upcoming FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.
On the performance
“I liked what I saw from the girls in moments. In other moments, I think we switched off, but overall, another three points in the bag.
“They're a decent side, Liverpool Feds – they cause problems, they don't stop. They can be really aggressive. I thought we handled that really well today.
“The first goal comes from a set piece and then a fantastic little bit of play to score from open play for Charlotte for the second.
“But we’re really disappointed with the manner in which we conceded. I thought there was a real lack of ownership throughout the team in that moment. I thought we switched off a little bit, but then I thought you saw us come to life, and for a 25-minute period, I thought we were excellent.”
“Obviously, Morph [Anna Morphet] gets another goal and the game's kind of dead, and it fizzles out, so it's always hard to judge the second half performance after the way in which the first half ended, but overall I’m delighted.”
On the strike partnership of Greengrass and Hughes
“Amber scores again today. Her and Charlotte are a phenomenal pairing up front. She's [Hughes] only just come back, and I think last season we lost her for a long period of time through rushing her, so we knew around the 60-minute mark was going to be enough for her today, and Charlotte, we're looking ahead of next week [against Forest].
“I thought since her couple of goals a couple of weeks ago, I think she’s the Charlotte we all know; dangerous, working hard, and really, really shown us what she's about.
“So I’m delighted with her performance as well. But as I said, when you make changes, it's hard to try and replicate what you do in the first half. But all the girls did well and were really good in the moments they needed to be.”
On the squad depth
“It shows the place that we're at. I think it's the, I've said it before, it's the strongest group I have ever worked with at Wolves.
“It's amazing to be working with such talented players. We've got to stick together. There are times when they're not going to be happy with the decisions, as are the players not involved today.
“But we've got to keep doing it for each of them.”
On the upcoming FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest
“We've got a really exciting week this week, getting back on the television next Saturday against an old rival of ours.
“Everyone thinks that'll be a formality, but we want to prove it wrong, we want to show that this group are not far away from being able to compete in the championship, whatever that looks like.
“So, an exciting week, we've got to stick together, keep churning out results, and we've got two more big ones before we break for the year.”
