Women's Report | Sporting Khalsa 0-5 Wolves

Sporting Khalsa 0 Wolves 5 (Sims 1 Worsey 32 Williams 75 Marshall 77 Hughes 90+2)

Wolves Women breezed past Sporting Khalsa in the FAWNL Cup, putting five past their opponents on Sunday afternoon.

Two first-half goals from both Amy Sims and Louanne Worsey set Wolves on their way to the perfect start, sending them into the break two goals to the good.

Before a comfortable second half performance saw Chloe Williams, Georgia Marshall and Amber Hughes put progression in the cup beyond doubt - Marshall netting her first for the club.

Sims gave the visitors the perfect start when she opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest. Beth Roberts helped win possession high up the pitch, before Sims picked up the ball inside the penalty area and slotted into the bottom corner.

Chances became few and far between as the half wore on, with Chloe Williams coming closest to a second minutes after the goal, blazing a volley over the upright.

Following an uneventful period in the game, Wolves doubled their advantage on the 32 minute mark. Williams split the defence with a superb reverse pass to play Jade Cross down the right flank, she fired a ball across goal where Worsey arrived to steer in.

The hosts pushed for a goal back as the half drew to a close, nearly bundling the ball home following a corner. Moments later, Wolves raced up the other end and came close to their third when Williams crashed an effort off the post, before Cross failed to turn in the rebound.

Worsey had the final opportunity of the half when she cut inside, beat her marker, and fired goalwards, but her effort was well saved by Elise Stocking in the Khalsa net.

Half-Time | Khalsa 0-2 Wolves

The second half started in the same fashion as the first - Wolves dominance. Sims was first to try her luck when she was set free on goal, but her effort was inches wide of the mark.

Dan McNamara turned to his bench for reinforcements as the tempo began to drop, introducing a trio of Charlotte Greengrass, Amber Hughes and Beth Merrick.

Those inductees looked to have had a positive effect on the team, as Wolves scored two in two minutes, seemingly putting progression in the cup beyond doubt.

First, neat work from Greengrass allowed Williams to shift past her marker and fire clinically into the bottom corner. Moments later, Marshall met Worsey’s outswinging corner with a headed effort finding the net.

Wolves managed the game well and as injury time neared expiration, Hughes netted her customary goal, glancing a header past Stocking and completing the five-star performance.
