Sims | ‘We deserved a big result like that’

Amy Sims was buzzing to contribute to Wolves’ 7-1 triumph over Hull City and continue their unbeaten run in the FAWNL on Sunday.

Following her two-goal display, the midfielder shared her thoughts on the team’s commanding performance, took a moment to remember Maddy Cusack and Matt Beard, as well as looking ahead to their FAWNL Cup fixture at Wythenshawe.

On their well-controlled performance

“I thought our reaction from going one goal down was the most important thing today.

“We deserved a big result like that, I think we were more clinical today and actually the build-up plays and how everyone just battled it out, first and second balls, I think that was coming and to respond from going 1-0 down was really great to see.”

On her two cracking goals

“It feels great to get on the scoresheet and do what the team needs me to do.

“It’s always nice to get a goal, the feeling you get from getting a goal is incredible so to get two is probably quite unusual for me, but I’ll take it.

“I’m buzzing to just help and do my bit for the team.”

On their winning streak

“Consistency is key, we all know our roles within the team and to have the squad that we do is amazing.

“We’ve got players coming off the bench and they know their roles and always give 100 percent, which is so important.

“With what we want to achieve, we need our squad. So, the consistency is so important and just grinding out results even if we haven’t played our best.

“Today it was a really good result and a really good performance but sometimes, we’ve not had the performance but got the result, so I think that is massively important as well.”

On remembering Maddy Cusack and Matt Beard

“I think it’s important to recognise what has happened over the last couple of days.

“It is going to affect the girls and affect the football community massively.

“It’s important to remember, and the minute silence was lovely for everyone to join in at such a hard time.”

Looking ahead to the FAWNL Cup game against Wythenshawe

“Obviously, we have to look at it as just another game, we take each one week by week and we want the exact same result each week, to win.

“We want to keep our performance up, keep scoring goals, keep the rotations within the team as that is helpful for the cup.

“But we just want to keep this winning streak going!”
