Captain Anna Morphet said the team were ‘on fire’ following their triumph over West Bromwich Albion in the Black Country derby.
Wolves Women thrashed their local rivals 8-0 at the Hawthorns on Sunday, in a game Morphet made her 150th appearance for the Old Gold, and the skipper admitted post-match that it was a special occasion to mark her landmark achievement in such an emphatic way.
On winning another Black Country derby
“It feels great. The performance was brilliant from minute one.
“I think we went in there with a clear game plan, and we wanted to come and attack West Brom and not wait for them to start the game.
“It’s their home stadium, we wanted to give it to them strong and on the back of such a good result last week, I’m really pleased, and another three points is just fantastic.”
On her 150th appearance for the Old Gold
“I’m very proud. I only found out about it after the game, so it makes it that little bit extra special.
“I’m very proud to reach this landmark and for such a great club and such a special occasion to match it.”
On being so clinical in front of goal
“We were fantastic. I thought the link up play up top today was outstanding.
“Some of the through balls, passes, and finishes today were incredible, so hopefully the front line with all that quality can keep that momentum, because they were on fire today.”
On the mentality going into the game
“I think with our mentality going into the game, there’s a lot of talk about with the run and the record but we just ignored all of that.
“Winning the last 10 games doesn’t guarantee you winning an eleventh.
“I think it was almost pressure on ourselves to make sure that we didn’t let it get to our heads, we were clear and not arrogant.
“We went into it with a clear mindset and it’s three points in a derby day that you don’t want to lose so I think it was credit to the girls for their attitude from minute one to the end.”
On keeping a clean sheet
“It was just as important to keep a clean sheet. It always adds to it, from the front to the back I thought that the aggression and the press was top class.
“When it starts from the likes of Charl (Charlotte Greengrass) and Amb (Amber Hughes) doing the pressing work, it flows well throughout the rest of the team and obviously it’s something that we want to maintain.
“It’s really important that we take pride in our clean sheets, so that was an added bonus today, definitely.”
On Cheltenham Town next week
“Taking the momentum and the top line being clinical from today is what we need.
“We want to take that into another cup game, and we want to really do well in it, and it gives us the opportunity to go and play and enjoy it.”
