McNamara | 'We have to go there and perform'

Dan McNamara believes his Wolves Women side are in a good place heading into Sunday’s Black Country derby at the Hawthorns.

The Old Gold travel to face their local rivals on the back of a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions and last Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Rugby Borough. Wolves have won 10 games on the bounce against West Brom, but that’s not something that McNamara is too interested in, as he focuses on taking three points from a tough opposition first and foremost.

On the Black Country derby

“We always talk about one fixture that doesn't need any bigging up by me, and that's obviously the Black Country derby.

“The fact it's going to be at the Hawthorns is incredible in itself. I know there's been plenty mentioned about it from West Brom, but I said it when we beat Burnley 1-0 away, last Sunday’s result means nothing unless we go and do the job at West Brom - we have to go there and perform.

“They're a good side and they've got some great individuals themselves. We're going to have to win those battles again before we get the respect to play.

“The girls are in a really good place. We had a tough summer, but now you look at where they're (the players) at and what they're producing off the pitch, on the pitch is remarkable.

“I'm delighted to be steering the ship once more, I think they're a credit to the football club.”

On the current winning streak against West Brom

“I say it to them every time - records are there to be broken, and that's what they'll be saying.

“I'm not too sure where we're at with it now, I'm not particularly interested where we're at with it.

“I'm focused on going there and trying to get three points off a difficult opposition who will make it difficult.

“They won't want to lose at their home ground. We've seen that at Burnley - they don't invite you to play in the main stadium to get beat, so they'll want to win.

“We've got to make sure we're up for the challenge. If I know the girls, I know they'll certainly be ready to take on whatever comes.”

On competing at the top of the table

“It's credit to the girls. I've said we always have to do things differently and we cannot, and we should not be competing.

“We do because we've got good people. We've got good people working in the background and we've got good people playing on the pitch.

“We've got good people working at the top to make sure the girls get as much as we can possibly give them.

“With great people, we always have great outcomes, and the girls are certainly producing that at the minute.”
