Roberts | 'We were never going to give up'

Beth Roberts says that going a goal behind made Wolves Women ‘hungrier’ to turn the game around at Derby County.

The Old Gold secured a second successive victory at the Don Amott Arena, but had to come from behind in doing so thanks to goals from Anna Morphet and Katie Johnson. Roberts, who played more advanced as a left winger for Dan McNamara’s side, has explained the character to come from behind, her position change and the influence of Becky Anderson on her debut.

On getting a first away win

It was a great battle from both teams, both teams showed a lot of passion. The conditions today played a big part in the game, but we were able to keep the ball on the floor as much as we could.”

On the resilience after conceding first

Of course it is not ideal, but whenever we are in that situation it makes us hungrier to create more chances, we were never going to give up.

“We didn’t do ourselves any favours but we knew we could get back in the game.”

On playing in a higher position

I loved playing higher up the pitch, I still had to get back and defend as much as I do normally at full back.

“I tried helping the team in defensive situations but also helped the team going forward as well.”

On Becky Anderson and her debut

It’s like having another Summer Holmes in midfield, she’s composed and relaxed on the ball. A great leader on and off the pitch.

“She brings so much experience and she helps the younger players, she’s such a great addition to the team.”

On facing Stoke City midweek at home

We’ll just continue what we have been doing, get back to training and work out how we will set up.

“We will stay as focused as possible because it will be a hard game, they were a tough test last season, and we understand they’ve made additions, so we know it won’t be an easy game.”
