Dan McNamara has praised his ‘ruthless’ Wolves Women side who scored eight at Stourbridge on Wednesday night.
Amber Hughes, Tammi George, Anna Morphet and Liv Fergusson each netted a brace at the War Memorial Ground, and manager McNamara was delighted with the whole team performance and the individuals within it.
On a ruthless display
“I thought we were ruthless tonight, excellent. We talked about putting on a bit of a show here tonight.
“We knew it would be packed out, there were 400/500 people here, and we wanted to make sure we didn’t disappoint.
“We were ruthless in all areas of the pitch and I thought we were outstanding from back to front, it was a really professional performance.
“This is probably what we’ve been lacking, some consistency this year. That hasn’t been helped with the schedule.
“We haven’t really had the opportunity to get a run of games where we can get some clean sheets in and wins.
“There was a really good feel-good factor tonight. I thought we were unplayable and I don’t think Stourbridge could get near us in all departments.
“I’m delighted with the win and we’ll look forward to going into the weekend off the back of two very good performances.”
On Lexie Harrison and Layla Banaras starting for the first time
“I told Lexie at the start. It wasn’t an emotive decision, it wasn’t anything to do with the fact she used to play here. It was based on her performance on Sunday.
“I asked people to come off the bench and affect the game and I felt she did that on Sunday.
“Layla’s been due a start for a while. You’ve seen here quality out there, I think she’s absolutely outstanding for a young player.
“I’m really looking forward to keep working with Layla and adding to her footballing journey.
“Two great opportunities for them both and they’ve seized them. I’m really pleased with their performances.”
On the goal scorers
“As long as the ball’s going in the back of the net, then I’m not really bothered who’s scoring them, but I know they’ll all have their own individual targets.
“It’s great to see Liv (Fergusson) get a couple tonight. That’s something that’s been hanging over her, she wants to add more goals to her game which is brilliant.
“Amber (Hughes) is back to Amber. She’s unplayable and at times you can’t get near her. She comes up with finishes like she did, so it’s great to see her back firing and amongst the goals.
“Tammi (George), we’ve challenged her to try and add goals from that 10 position. It was two great finishes from herself and she probably wasn’t the happiest coming off on a hat-trick, but that’s the way it goes. We needed to rotate and rest players ahead of the game.”
On facing Halifax on Sunday
“Halifax are a difficult side. Rob (Mitchell) will do his homework, that’s one thing that he will do.
“We’ve got to make sure we’re really prepared as always. The preparation looks a bit different this week because we’ve had two heavy pitches, two good performances.
“We’ve got to make sure we’re ready because Halifax will pose a threat. I know they’re still not 100% happy with their position at the minute, so they’ll want to put points on the board. We need another professional performance and hopefully we can add nine points from nine.”
