McNamara | 'It's three points to start off the week'

Dan McNamara was complimentary of how his Wolves Women side went about securing victory on the road at Huddersfield Town.

Goals from Sophie Bramford and Amber Hughes ensured all three points on Easter Sunday, and manager McNamara has praised a professional performance, Hannah Fryer’s form and the impact of substitutes ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Stourbridge.

On being professional

“It’s one of those that just needed a professional performance. They’re a tough side, Huddersfield.

“I still look at the players they’ve got and I don’t know how they’ve ended up in the situation they are. Credit to Glen (Preston) and his staff – they’re close, they’re really close.

“You look at the first half and if they take the first chance that they get, all of a sudden it’s a different game.

“With regards to Wolves, we just knew we needed to come here, be professional in what we did and take a couple of moments, which I felt we did.”

On the impact of subs and Lexie Harrison

“We probably should’ve capitalised on a couple more areas, but I think today the subs have to take the credit. Some of the performances off the substitutions, especially Lexie Harrison. She’s had a difficult start to her career at Wolves and probably hasn’t seen the minutes that she wants, but I thought she was tremendous today.

“She’s shown why we brought her in. She made things happen, won us a penalty, free-kicks, so fantastic from her.

“Overall, all 16 were really good, professional and it’s three points to start off the week.”

On Hannah Fryer’s performances

“She’s another one who’s an absolute model professional. Again, she was under no illusions what she was coming in for over the summer last year.

“I said I’d stick to my word. If you perform, then you’ll play. She’s waited to get her opportunity and we can’t take her out at the minute.

“She’s started three games on the bounce now and she’s been fantastic. Heading into a three-game week it might look a little bit different, but she’s been tremendous and she epitomises what you want from a manager and a football club – the way she conducts herself, everything about her, professionalism and she’s a great person.

“I’m delighted for her today because I thought she did really well. She was solid in what was a difficult game on a difficult surface.”

On Wednesday’s game at Stourbridge

“I don’t think there’s anywhere that’s easy to go to in this division anymore. Tactically, the whole division is fantastic so you really have to be on it.

“You have to make sure you’re ready to go every time you step onto the grass. The girls have got to make sure they get up for Wednesday.

“Today’s allowed us, the sending off has changed the game at the end, to make five changes quite early which was positive heading into Wednesday.

“We should be refreshed. Again, it’s going to be another difficult surface I should imagine, but the girls will be ready.”
