Liv Fergusson has described the possibility of playing at Molineux as a ‘dream’.
As a fan growing up, the Wolves Women forward can’t wait to experience the golden palace against West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening in the Black Country derby. Fergusson, who scored in the away fixture against the Baggies earlier in the season, has spoken on derby night at Molineux, being wary of West Brom’s current form and the support of the fans and her family on the night.
On playing at Molineux
“I can’t wait. It’s going to be a dream for me. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid to watch Wolves play, so to actually get the opportunity to play here is amazing.
“As a fan, I’ve been to watch many games growing up but, since signing here, I came when I first joined and have been doing some media bits as well. The tunnel is incredible, so I can’t wait to walk out from there.
“The pitch looks great and I can’t wait to get out there and have the fans in the stadium as well.”
On the performance against Newcastle
“The performance against Newcastle last week was brilliant and people were getting back to their best, Amber (Hughes) scoring goals again – I’m really pleased for her.
“All over the pitch we were brilliant and it was good to put on a performance like that against one of the top teams. That’s where we’ve dropped points this season, so it was good to show that we can do that.”
On derby night
“It being a derby makes it a bit more special for me as a fan, but we approach it the same as every other game.
“We come here, we work hard and we do what’s needed to try and get the win. With my fan head on, a derby at the Molineux is just unreal for me.”
On scoring against West Brom earlier in the season
“I think with my celebrations after, everyone was a bit taken aback but that just meant so much to me – to play for Wolves and to score for Wolves alone is really cool for me.
“One of the big reasons why I came to the club is because I love the club, I love the derbies and hopefully I can repeat that on Friday.”
On the threat of West Brom
“West Brom are going to come and it’s going to be a really competitive game. They’re in a really good run of form themselves and we’re going to have to be at our best.
“We know that, and we’re ready. I think that’s going to make it a really exciting game for the fans. It’ll be competitive and ultimately I hope we get the win, but we’re ready and it should be a really good game.”
On the support of the fans
“The fans are always important and they’ve been great for us so far this season. In those derbies and in a big stadium, I think it’s really important for us on the pitch that we have as many as we can there supporting us.
“I think we’ll really feel that and it will hopefully give us the edge. That would be amazing.”
On her family in attendance
“My dad and my brother. My dad comes everywhere with me, wherever I’m playing. It will be really nice to have them here – that will be special for them.
“My dad’s the reason I’m a Wolves fan, the family are massive Wolves fans, so it will be a really nice occasion for them as well.”
