Anna Morphet commended the Old Gold’s defensive resilience after beating Liverpool Feds 3-0 to gain their first three points of 2024.
After numerous cancellations, Dan McNamara's side played just their fourth league fixture since the turn of the year last weekend. The captain discussed the win, keeping a clean sheet and looking ahead to three successive home fixtures.
On the game
"It was a great performance from the girls. A clean sheet is what we really were hoping to get out of the game, as we knew it would be a tough game against a good Liverpool Feds team.
"I am delighted to get three goals, three points and get back to winning ways in the league."
On keeping a clean sheet
"It is something we haven't kept as tight as we would have liked to the last few games.
"But we can hopefully build on the back of today. Front to back, we defended really well as a team."
On the first league win of 2024
"It has been a tough start, not just the teams that we played and the results but also cancellations and postponements.
"It has been tough for us to get momentum, but I know the girls and myself were desperate to play today and get back on the pitch and enjoy it. I am looking forward to the run of home games ahead now."
On two tough tests against Forest and Newcastle
"We will put together a game plan and respect the quality they have got in their side.
"We know that on our day, if we apply ourselves right, we can play really well, and we will be looking to go into these games with more than staying in them.
"We will look to attack them and see what we get out of the game."
On getting revenge on Forest
"We have been disappointed with the results away from home, and some have not quite gone our way even though we have put in some good performances.
"Hopefully, we can start turning those good performances into points. There is always that bit of rivalry in the game, and that will help us attack the game."
