Johnson | 'We need to try and take the positives'

Katie Johnson is keen to take the positives from Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City, despite being disappointed overall not to win the game.

Wolves Women scored deep into added time to rescue a point through Ellie Wilson, and defender Johnson believes the team showed positive signs to fight until the end. However, Johnson has also admitted that there is a lack of consistency when it comes to the league campaign and momentum from the FA Cup victory at Reading was lost following illness in the camp last week.

On the performance

“I don’t think it was our best performance ever. It was good that we rode it out until the end and got the point, but we’re very disappointed not to get the three points.

“We held off well and all the back three did their job today and we were pushing for it because we were losing, so I think they were always going to try and change the game.

“We were pushing up high so it always looked like we were potentially struggling, but I trust the back three and our goalie so we dealt with it well.”

On scoring late

“We always want to believe until the end and we’ll never give up, that’s just something we live by.

“It was disappointing not to get the three points but to get that one right at the end is definitely crucial for us. It’s disappointing not to get the three points at the end.”

On a lack of consistency

“It’s been an up and down few weeks to be fair but I think we just need to try and take the positives from today, like the fact we didn’t give up until the end.

“We’ll take the positives into next week because it’s going to be a tough game but we’ll prepare well, get in on Tuesday, refresh, go over today and just start again.

“We’ve got to go into Sunday with a positive mindset because it’s going to be a tough game and we know they’re going to be a tough outfit.”

On losing momentum

“It didn’t help our momentum because we had brilliant momentum after Reading. It knocked us a bit but I think it’s brought us closer together.

“It’s just a shame that we couldn’t get the three points after the rough week we’ve been through this week.

“We’ll go again next week, get back in, work hard and I know we’ll pull through next week.”
