Hull City 1 (Tanser 44) Wolves 4 (Hughes 58, Morphet pen 73, Bramford 89, Merrick 90+5)
Wolves Women completed a fantastic second half comeback to win 4-1 away to Hull City and secure their place in the fourth round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.
Despite going down to 10 players following Hope Knight’s straight red, Hull took the lead minutes before half-time through Ellie Tanser, who headed home from a corner. However, Wolves didn't give up and turned it around after the interval, with goals coming from Amber Hughes, Anna Morphet, Sophie Bramford and substitute Beth Merrick.
The Old Gold had the first opportunity to break the deadlock from a Morphet free-kick, which went just wide of the post from the edge of the box.
The momentum was with Wolves, and after bringing a long ball down, Hughes drove into the box and shot from a tight angle, but Abigail Wallace got down well to collect while Beth Roberts also saw a cross rebound back off the crossbar.
Just past the half-hour mark, Hull went down to 10 players after Knight was shown a red card following a challenge on keeper Bec Thomas.
After some good build-up play from Dan McNamara's side, the ball found Liv Fergusson on the edge of the area, who flashed a cross across the face of goal, but no one was there to poke home.
The home side were awarded a corner on the stroke of half-time which led to one of their first and last chances of the half. Katie Thompson sent a floated cross to the far post, which Tanser met and headed home.
With only seconds remaining, Morphet sent a corner into the heart of the box, which bounced around in the air until the ball fell to Katie Johnson on the edge of the area, who volleyed just over.
Half-time | Hull City 1-0 Wolves
After suffering an injury earlier in the game, Thomas could not continue four minutes after the interval, and under-21s keeper Elise Stocking came on in her place and made her first-team debut.
Minutes before the hour mark, Wolves pulled level after Fergusson squared a lovely ball across goal to Hughes, who tapped home from close range to make it seven goals in the four games.
The Old Gold were then awarded a penalty with just under 20 minutes to go after Destiney Toussaint was brought down following a fabulous run into the box. Morphet calmly took the penalty and converted.
Hull were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box minutes later after substitute Stocking’s challenge with Rachael Ackroyd, but the set piece went flying over.
In the final stages, substitute Jade Cross magnificently kept the ball in play, and Bramford then pounced and scored after Wallace was unable to hold onto the ball.
Wolves sealed the victory in the fifth minute of additional time through Merrick's superb curling free-kick, which glided over the wall and into the back of the net.
The away win confirmed the Old Gold's place in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup where they will make the trip to Championship side Reading in the New Year.
